When your to-do list turns spooky

Every year, around this time, people love a good fright; haunted houses, ghost stories, jump scares.
But if you’re a wellbeing professional running your own business, there’s something far scarier than Halloween monsters…

👻 Your to-do list.

It lurks in notebooks, inboxes and sticky notes.
You think you’ve tamed it, but every time you cross one task off, two more rise from the dead.

If your to-do list gives you the shivers, you’re not alone. Most business owners I work with aren’t short on ideas or talent, they’re simply drowning in daily demands.

1. The “Energy Vampires”

Some tasks look innocent but quietly drain your energy.
They nibble away at your focus until you’re left foggy-headed and frustrated.

🧛‍♀️ Typical culprits:

  • Endless admin that could be automated
  • Client emails that arrive faster than you can reply
  • Systems that promised to save time but somehow eat it instead

If you live with ADHD, chronic fatigue or just a low-energy season, these vampires bite harder.
Protect your energy like treasure; it’s your most valuable business resource.

💡 Quick tip: List every task that drains you. Then ask: Does this really need me?
If not, delegate, automate or delete.

2. The “Web of Worry”

You started your business for freedom, not to be trapped in admin and overwhelm.
Yet somewhere along the way, you got caught in your own web:
replying, rescheduling, reorganising… while the things that truly light you up sit untouched.

🕸️ To escape the web:

  • Pause before saying “yes.”
  • Revisit what actually moves your business forward.
  • Snip away the strands that don’t serve you.

You’ll be amazed how much lighter things feel when you stop spinning and start simplifying.

3. The “Spell of Should”

“I should post more.”
“I should work harder.”
“I should be able to manage it all.”

Those “shoulds” are sneaky spells. 🧙‍♀️
They’re cast by guilt and perfectionism, turning joy into pressure.
Let’s break that spell this season.

✨ Replace “I should” with “I choose.”
✨ Replace “I must” with “I can, when it feels right.”

Freedom starts with permission, and sometimes that means doing less, not more.

4. The “Monsters Under the Desk”

You know them.
The half-finished project.
The “quick task” that’s been on your list for months.
The scary inbox count that keeps creeping up.

Here’s the trick: monsters shrink when you shine a light on them.
Pick one thing today, just one, and deal with it.
Then celebrate it. Small wins build momentum faster than any productivity spell.

5. Time for a Task Tamer Session

Your to-do list doesn’t need exorcising, just organising.
With the right structure and priorities, you can go from haunted to harmonious.

That’s exactly what we do in my Task Tamer session:
🕯️ We look at what’s really on your plate
🔦 Sort by energy, not just urgency
✨ Create a simple plan that fits your life, not the other way round

Or, if you’d like to dip a toe in first, join my free masterclass and I’ll show you the first two steps to reclaim your time, energy and focus.

From fright to flow

This Halloween, forget the ghosts and ghouls.
The scariest thing in business is running out of energy for what truly matters.

So light a candle, grab your favourite jumper, and choose one thing to clear today.
Your future self (and nervous system) will thank you.
